Dr. Iwata completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Arizona. He then attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque for his subspecialty fellowship training in gastroenterology. He moved his family back to Colorado Springs in 1984 and helped found Gastroenterology Associates of Colorado Springs in 1993. Dr. Iwata has held numerous leadership positions in the medical community of Colorado Springs including Chief of Medicine at Memorial Health System. He has published several medical articles and participated in clinical research. His areas of special interests include acid reflux, motility disorders, advance techniques in colonoscopy and the “pill camera” or capsule endoscopy. His hobbies include fly fishing, golf, skiing, tennis, cycling, and traveling with his family. He has been married to Judy, one of our part-time GI Nurses, for over twenty-five years.
